Customer Spotlight: Franklin Mint Obama Coin

No matter which way you lean politically, Barack Obama's popularity - at least at the time of his election - couldn't be denied.  Seeing an opportunity, the Franklin Mint created a commemorative coin to celebrate his historic victory.

Unless you were in a coma, you probably saw the television infomercials for this coin numerous times.  But what you didn't know was that the website you saw advertised, obamacoin.net, was actually a Cartooga store and still retains its #1 position in Google more than two years later.

The Cartooga platform was chosen to handle this site for a number of reasons.  For starters, our platform has the ability to manage large amounts of traffic without a loss of service, which is essential for a national television advertiser.  Second was the ability to tie the platform into third party fulfillment centers.  Originally the coins were being shipped from a fulfillment center out of California, then later that inventory was transferred to a different company in Florida.  Cartooga's API allowed them to not only configure the system so orders were sent to the fulfillment center, but also to switch to the new fulfillment center - which required a completely different export format - without any down time or losing any orders.  Now that's change you can believe in!

Additionally, some of Cartooga's unique features oriented toward the direct response industry came in handy as well, such as the advanced promotion engine, shipping & handling per item, and the up-sell engine which let them introduce other products to the customer before checking out.

In the end, nearly half of all orders received as a result of this multi-million dollar television campaign were processed through their online store.
